This has been my position on Coriander
I cannot buy or find OLD 1930's Coriander spice tins Individual and ones that people claimed to be 1930's were more 1950's Tins.
It's even hard to find a Recipe from 1930's and 1940's where Coriander was in the ingredient's BUT only my View.
Coriander was available in some BLENDED SPICES in the 1930's.
Bill S from Marion Kay had made a comment one time regarding Coriander was a newer spice which was rising fast on sales and shipment more then the Celery Seed.
I have commented Many Times I believed that Coriander was used later in the KFC Mixes.
I Do think that Coriander replaced Celery Seed and this is also more in my mind NOW then ever as from other post I have made and Trying to find a Coriander OLD TIN now for decades I would be MOST certain that Celery Seed was used in the 1930's.
Celery Seed would have also been a vegetable NOT a Herb and Spice, in the 1930's
so in MY OPIONION ONLY.
Celery Seed was replaced by Coriander

Some collected info on Coriander Seed:
Coriander A close relative to caraway is coriander. In terms of flavor, this common spice sits somewhere between fennel and cumin. It has a tartness that stands in well for caraway’s citrus taste and an earthiness that emulates its nuttiness.
Coriander is an aromatic spice, with a sensually musky scent that is punctuated by a twang of citrus. Its raw and earthy fragrance also has very slight hints of butter and thyme, creating an overall aroma that is both subtle and complex.
The flavor is quite mellow and earthy with lemony undertones. It is warm, mild, sweetish and citrusy with a gentle flavor that rarely overpowers a dish.
It works very well with other spices, most of all with cumin.
If a recipe calls for coriander seeds and you don't have them, mix this as a substitute:
1 tsp caraway seeds 1 tsp fennel seeds 1 tsp cumin seeds 1/4 to 1/2 tsp cardamom seeds

Coriander seeds’ flavor is unusual, ranging from peppery to citrus, with hints of cloves and cardamom. They make an excellent substitute for Celery Seed because of the intensity of flavor, not necessarily because of the similarity. However, they will add the same crunch and aromatic warmth as Celery Seed. Use Coriander Seed in equal quantities as for Celery Seed if you’re looking for general spiciness.

Coriander speculation (as guided by my recipe #15 flavor perceptions):
You will know when you have added too much Coriander, when it begins to take on a cloying note of Cumin. The key to determining the right amount of Coriander to add MAY be to add it just until it begins to mildly express a nature of Cumin.
Of course, when attempting this, do not also have actual Cumin in your recipe.

As to KFC_like flavor contribution, does: Coriander Seed + Anise Seed (at some ratio) = Caraway Seed
Perhaps at a ratio such that 3/4 parts Coriander Seed and 1/4 parts Anise Seed = 1 part Caraway Seed.
It roughly seems as if Anise Seed has ballpark 4 times more licorice character than does Caraway Seed as an initial guess.

Another way of looking at this:
Does: 0.75 gram Coriander Seed + 0.25 grams Anise Seed ~= 1.00 grams Caraway Seed
If so, then Caraway Seed saves one ingredient spot that can now be used for some other H&S. Celery Seed perhaps...

No spice combination is going to come close to replicating caraway. Caraway is a very individual spice with unique flavours.

Fennel Seed would be the closest comparison to Caraway Seed
Fennel Seed is a more licorice taste and yes different then Caraway
ONLY our personal experience between the Closest spice to Caraway
