Marion Kay formulated a chicken coating for CHS in the "early 1960's". To me that means 1962, give or take a couple years. marionkay.comPS: In the 3 minute and 49 second CHS speech praising Bill Summers (as preserved in a podcast for your listening enjoyment on this website) CHS raves about specifically which MK spice?Answer = MK's Cinnamon Hint?Additionally, on the MK website there is no hint of Bill Summers reverse engineering the recipe. It is clearly indicated that CHS sought him out to produce it, not clone it.

Did you taste Nutmeg/Mace or Star Anise in 99X at any point though? These are items where we have little to no evidence for I would say...

What I "uniquely" taste in KFC OR that to me most emphatically expresses the 'note' (and gives it distinction thereby separating it from any other mass market fried chicken) is a distinctive nuttiness flavor. When suppressing Coriander, said nuttiness must be recovered (in my opinion) via greater addition of Nutmeg/Mace. After that, I'd say Eugenol. As to actual 99-X, I've never actually tasted it. Have you?

A lot of Cinnamon is consumed during this time in the western world. This is the most apparent context. I wouldn't expect CHS to discuss OR items this openly. But maybe someone will explain to us that Cinnamon is in the OR because CHS loved Cinnabons, just like Mace is in the OR because he liked it in his donuts. And every spice he put in the BBQ of course. Also in.

Confirmation bias? How would you be able to replicate a seasoning you have never tasted? And when you do try, why wouldn't you want to stick to what is more or less certain for starters? I just don't get it. This is pure fantasy, sorry. No offence.

This is pure fantasy, sorry. No offence. I'm making the quite logical presumption that 99-X is intended to taste a lot like KFC OR. Do you think differently of it?
