GC and similar of such analysis instrumentation is generally rather vague (or ballpark), and can't hardly (in my opinion. having operated such equipment in chem labs as part my university studies) be definitive as to dead ringer quantitatives with respect to the myriads of flavor oils involved here. And even if it was quantitatively sound (as opposed to being quantitatively ballpark and sketchy/vague) such analysis most assuredly can't possibly point back to specifically any of what precise herbs or spices were the underlying source of any of the extant flavor and/or aroma oils, since such oils are present within multitudes of different herbs and spices, etc... And then to make matter worse, the guy who initiated the testing admitted that he didn't even think to ask the lab to search for a good number of the potentially extant critical oils to begin with. I've said a number of times that such analysis as involves such a complex system with so many oils involved and so many potential sources for each oil is a waste of time, effort, and money.

It's almost a slam dunk relatively safe bet that KFC competitors have analyzed real KFC OR seasoning to the tee. And it's also a relatively safe bet that no one even at that level of financing and desire and lab equipment and wherewithal has pieced the original recipe back together thereby.

Every individual herb and/or spice chemical analysis which I've seen (and over the past 3 or so years I've looked at many of them) lists at least 30 to 50 or more constituents with broadly vague ranges of quantitative percentiles. No two of such analyses ever seem to look reliably alike across the board. And some look quite radically different from lab to lab and region to region and season to season. Some critical peaks are present within some analyses and some of the same are absent within other analyses of the same herb/spice. One thing that seems certain in this is that no two batches of seasoning mix are going to be the same as to their analysis results. And this of course means that no two independent lot number batches of the real deal will ever taste and/or smell exactly alike. There must realistically be a rather broad range of flavor and aroma acceptability. And early on such diversity and acceptability had to be far more evident than for today. It's a safe bet that Pete Harmon didn't have a lab with sophisticated instrumentation, and wouldn't know what to do with it even if he did, and an even safer bet that CHS would have no clue at all when presented with such instrumentation.

So deepfriednew101, since you have no non-disclosure agreements with Marion Kay, why don't we see you offering up a highly specific clone recipe for 99-X? I bet the answer is that you can't do it.

I have said in the Past we have a Agreement with the University who have the Equipment, to test compounds and also CFI test Items upon complaints and also verification for import.
They are obviously LIMITED to what they can Do But the equipment can Tell You exactly how many items are in a compound by separation. the items can then be tested in other locations as to the item nature.
As a mater of Fact we have some High tech equipment Microscopes and other separators' and accumulator's for compounds with full sieve shake.
99-x has more than one recipe that they used according to Bill S Marion Kay when I Met Him Who said He made a change to the 99-x after the court case ended.
Marion Kay Chicken Seasoning was the Original 99-x was the second
Claudia Seasoning was a Salt included similar version that Marion Kay makes
Grace's Perfect Blend uses a 12 Blended seasoning which is NOT the Original and Marion Kay

YOU WILL LEARN some information ? OH but this may take making a telephone Call or sending a Question to THEM
