I had started out with a couple of seasonings, including pepper and salt. Also interesting the use of the word including pepper and Salt. Not plus or in addition to.
As far as MSG goes is it possible it was Brown and Pete that came up with that. To be a flavor booster as they reduced and cut back on quality and amount of real H&S? Just a thought.
If MSG was what was added for the boat trip. Then he counted that as the 11th it would seem
Nice catch! I didn't catch that pepper and salt are counted among the 11 "seasonings". Salt is a seasoning, but it isn't an herb or spice. But CHS isn't mentioning H&S.

And another good paste:
I also used a certain kind of flour. That flour was no secret. I told my franchisees what kind of flour was best. But the 11 different seasonings, spices and herbs mixed with that flour is a secret. It complemented the flavor of my chicken. I packaged my privately developed seasoning. I was careful to keep that package uniform everywhere – the United States, Canada, Hawaii, Puerto Rico – anywhere we shipped the seasoning. Nobody knew what my formula was. I had to keep it a secret to protect my franchisees
Seems to wrap seasonings, herbs and Spices all up into the 11!

WAS THE BOAT TRIP IN 1939
NO
The Cumberland Lake was NOT built.
about 10 items could BE 11 items C.H.S, promoted the 11 Secret Spices and Herbs 1939.
EVERY OTHER Newspaper report in Canada says Flour, Salt, Pepper and then 11 Spices and Herbs were the Original
SALT & Pepper WAS A separate item NOT IN THE 11 Spices and Herbs. My Opinion. Everyone is correct with there own version of the History.

Anyone in possession of the real recipe would not need to defer to personal opinions or newspaper reports or books on the history of CHS or stories about boat trips. A glance at the recipe itself should suffice to set the record straight as to the ingredients count. Without needing to reveal a single ingredient.

Winston said the recipe he got was 11 ingredients. This book certainly makes it sound like 11 ingredients included pepper and salt. I agree that it could be that it was around 11 kind of sort of. But more stories point to that not being the case. So I agree with Silver a few folks on here claim to know the OR. So fairly simple for one of them to pipe in with the answer. Did the 11 include pepper and salt in the bag! And is pepper white and black in any of the vials

I like the idea of only 11 items. But what do we gain from the info if Salt and MSG were included if we again do not know if the OR also contained blends like Poultry Seasoning or Chili Powder. Or if Black and White Pepper count as one. I wouldn't be able to recreate the note if restricted to 11 actual single items at this point I guess. But it is an interesting approach. Do you actually need tiny amounts of Thyme and Marjoram for instance when you already have Savory (and Sage).
I find it strange to say it must be 11 herbs and spices in a strict botanical sense though. Why would you not count Salt and MSG as items? Or exclude vegetables? If you asked me how many items I put in my bbq rub and I said 11 when it actually are 20 I'd be lying and deceiving. Also, there is no magic about the number 11 in my opinion. If KFC would have been promoting 12 or 15 herb & spices the effect would similar. May be not 13 though. So Salt and MSG could be 12 and 13 unmentioned to avoid the negative connotation of the number 13 in the western world. But Pepper is a proper spice, no need to not name it. Especially White Pepper was and will never be an average item not worth mentioning.
Indeed very exposing discussion for those claiming to know the OR. But what have they brought to the table yet anyway? Only stories and low defs of publicly available images. It is pure comedy to bash Ken or Dustin when after decades they themselves couldn't provide a single recipe that could challenge theirs. It is also ironic to make fun of the Corp for asking people to send in recipes when this is exactly what you do on the forum, asking members to private message recipes so the benevolent godfather can rate them. Ridiculous.
Anyway, no hard feelings. Stay critical folks. Happy Easter to those celebrating.

I agree @11serbs he may have counted pepper as one item. Or omitted MSG or any of those. I do think however outside of any blends that may have been in the OR. It's not 22 items and some of the crazy numbers I have read on these forums. I think it's much simpler and closer to 11 or so not in the high teens.
Keep your eyes on the prize!!

MY EYES looking at what may or may NOT be the Original BUT I know it's C.H.S. Hand writing The Age of the Document's are undetermined at this Time. The Hand writing was and is C.H.S. on the First inspection.
SALT is NOT listed in the 11 Herbs and Spices INDIVIDUAL HERBS & SPICES
M.S.G. is NOT listed as a item in the 11 Herbs and Spices
Pepper Black is used in Many stages of the Cooking and list many different ways.
The instructions for Cooking are Very detailed Very detailed.
There are MORE then 11 Ingredients when you count the Salt, Pepper, and Vegetable items (Vegetable NOT counted in the 11)
There is what would be considered a Allergen in the Mix
Brine or Marinade was used and over night was preferred.
The Flour is Well Seasoned with Herbs and Spies.
READ THIS 11 Spices and Herbs INDIVIDUAL are in the Potential Recipe which is C.H.S. hand writing NOT saying it was the Original first written recipe BUT the NOTES for instructions read OLD FASHION and NO fancy Cvap machine. OLD FASHION METHODS.
Real Milk Real Eggs which give Time Period.
THERE are other External items used in the cooking Process WHICH are NOT listed in the 11 Spices & Herbs. THEY ARE NOT SECRET and were on every Panty shelf also in 1939.
The recipe which we HAVE personally cooked and mixed NOT 50 times. Has MORE FLAVOR then any current KFC NEW AGE.
it has the Flavor Depth color of a Old Fashion KFC. it can be Frozen and reheated in a IP for 3 Minutes and then Air Fried and the Aroma is present the reheating in a 2 stage process IP then AIR Frying is AMAZING trick we used THE chicken almost as if from the Pressure cooker and we Froze the Cooked Chicken to see left over ability's.
