That quote about how the 11th ingredient is some rare spice is wrong. Hint: the 11th ingredient isn't really a spice. But there is an ingredient in the recipe that absolutely was not common to everyone's shelf and completely contradicts Sanders statement.

I'm throwing a bone. I have a new theory about Shelton which many might like. It seems to make sense, and according to this new theory, white pepper is the 13g given last. I haven't worked it out yet (it's on paper), but if correct, then more salt needs to be added through brining. And yes, all ingredients are present to create the OR. It appears, IMHO, that Ledington's is partially correct and was released as a ruse.

I'm not going to pen a "dissertation" of what I've been up to, only small parcels. Honestly, I lose interest and stop reading all of these long dissertations, although I've been guilty of posting them myself. So I have just a few points of interests for folks to digest, posted on all three forums:
Maybe CHS considered an ingredient an herb, if it came from and herb plant. Maybe ingredients that came from under the ground were considered "vegetable herbs", such as ginger, onion, celery and turmeric. All other ingredients that did not come from herbs or from under the ground were spices. MSG was a seasoning and salt and pepper were table seasonings. Garlic was the main source of salt, and was labeled the same as table salt. Allspice, clove, chili and bay leaf are not from herb plants and thus are spices. Coriander comes from an herb, but cilantro was not a well used herb back in my day and the seeds could have been considered a spice, particularly if they were contained in a "mix". Mustard seed does not come from a regularly used herb and is a spice. I never saw mustard leaves cooked in my life. I'm not quoting botanical definitions, but what CHS may have believed.
Next I'll get into Shelton, and then what I think CHS was telling us when he described how he developed the OR.
