In conversation with a person the other day ? This Question has come about ? when KFC NEW AGE were moving the secret 11 Herbs and Spice Recipe and the Vials that were in the Filing Cabinet. The security expert Bo Dietl, watching as Roger Eaton, president of KFC USA, places Colonel Harland Sanders' handwritten Original Recipe of 11 herbs and spices into KFC headquarters' newly modernized and remodeled vault. The comment was the Filing cabinet when open was OVERWHELMED with SPICE AROMA ? So I have enquired with 5 Spice experts who have OVER 220 Years of Combined Years of Spice and Herb Knowledge and been around the BLOCK, worked spice R&D plus every other job function in the spice industry this question. WHAT would the Likely hood be that there would be a Aroma in a filing Cabinet that was over powering. If the spices were stored in Vials and incased in a Acrylic Memorabilia sealed Case. photos of Vials below and the Photos of the Day that were taken BY multiple Photographers were also sent to the People for observation and Question to answer would there been a Aroma ? The Answer FROM all have been how would there be aroma from a Double sealed Protective System the sealed Vials and the Security sealed Acrylic item. It would be Impossible to have a aroma. even if the Vial Rubber tops leaked the Acrylic should have stopped any such aroma. comments received back are Does your cupboard with spice Jars in your Home for decades have a Overwhelming Aroma. They sent photos of there Spice weight rooms and said the only time they have aroma is when they open the containers that are being weighted your comments are awaited on how could KFC have a overwhelming aroma from double sealed security Memorabilia acrylic item ?

I personally think chasing the recipe via looking at the vials is a complete waste of time and energy that could better be spent by actually designing and cooking recipes.

I View the Vials as this ? Marketing Marketing Marketing Hype. The Information I have sourced on the Vials which has been extensive even offered to Purchase Original Photos of the Vials from BOTH best quality sources KNOW and they WILL NOT SELL THEM? The Original Vials in a Acrylic were made by McCormick's as a commemorative Gift item to CHS event. Now I know many people say that there are NO spice makers who have the recipe as KFC says that 2 supplies mix two different Bags 1 mixes the 6 Pepper items Herb Base and the second supplier mixes the 5 Spices ingredient that are then sent to the KFC commissary where they are blended together. Claudia PERSONALLY PERSONALLY said to ME that when Harland JR passed away they hired Durkee's to BLEND THE SPICE all 11 Item's. We all know Bill S from Marion K and Pat from Grace's had the Original Spice and Herbs. so there are MANY sources who have the 11 Herbs and Spices KFC uses Many photos and items as Marketing Clever items you pick the Marketing Flavor of the Year they use

I personally think chasing the recipe via looking at the vials is a complete waste of time and energy that could better be spent by actually designing and cooking recipes. I agree, where is the evidence that what's in those vials is actually the 11 herbs and spices? if those vials don't actually contain the 11 herbs/spices (which common sense tells me they dont" then you are just taking yourself on a wild goose chase trying to crack the recipe by guessing what those vials contain. Why do i think it doesn't contain the actual 11 herbs/spices? because it makes absolutely zero sense to me why a business man would risk a recipe worth millions of dollars by showcasing the actual ingredients in the recipe in crystal clear vials for all to see. What does make sense to me, is that they would fill the vials with maybe 4 or 5 legit ingredients and the rest just random stuff that is not in the recipe which would actually help keep the recipe more of a secret by confusing people trying to guess what's in the vials. I always try to maintain an open mind so i'm not going to just dismiss them entirely but imo, you also shouldn't treat them as 100% legit when there is no evidence to say they are.

Agree.
- First we have White Pepper, Ginger, Garlic, and possibly Mustard too, and we have only 2 yellow vials.
- Second, the company that did them, Mccormic, knows only half the recipe.
- Third, for every vial you will have tens of different opinions, most trying to fill a favourite spice in some vial
Vial A : Coriander, Cumin, Anis, Saffron, and even Thyme has been suggested here
Vial B : Name any herb you like.
Vial C : Vanilla, Cloves, Allspice, Dark Chili Pepper., darkened Basil
Vial D : Name any herb you like
Vial E : Cloves, Allspice, Nutmeg, Star Anis
Vial F : Ginger, Mustard, White Pepper, Garlic
Vial G : Cardamom, Nutmeg, Celery, even Marjoram has been suggested here.
And it goes on and on.

Not that it likely matters, but by playing with various of the color balancing tools, etc... available within 'GIMP' (the 'GNU Image Manipulation Program') I'm now able to positively inform you that only vials B,D, and I can be coaxed to exhibit green (unless one makes the entire image green), so these three are thereby likely to be Herbs. Which herbs? Who knows...

Notice also that the case cover is white and the wall is a relatively neutral gray. At least as my laptop and my eyes see it. YMMV

Why would anyone show 11 vials to demonstrate a secret recipe? Could it be that it shows the "old" recipe, and not the "new" recipe? How about "hide in plain sight". In my view, the fact that some are rejecting the idea that the vials show at least part of the recipe, indicates that the effort to obscure is working. Look at that guy's face. In his mind he is holding "gold". My theory, again (can't remember which forum) is what I call the 11x11 recipe. There are 11 base items CHS gave to Winston Shelton. CHS said the OR could be made with these base 11. One, or more, must have been mixes. The vials show the 11 "secret" elements, to keep in line with the "11" concept. The 1970s seasoning bag ingredient list says it all. MSG, white pepper, black pepper and garlic, part of the base 11, are not secret, and are not in the vials. The secret 11, which are spices plus herbs from the mix, are represented in the 11 vials. You know, and I know, that those vials do not contain salt or msg or more than two light colored ingredients, and thus could not be what was given to Winston Shelton. Either that story is fake, or the vials are legit. Looking at the colors is of minimal importance in my view. The large A and B and the other, light non-numerical vials spells it all out. Plus the only two like colors which are side by side also tells a tale. It is really important to line up the knowns. TCK forum tried that but fell short because opposing input was strongly rejected. It was like the vanilla. So many jumped on board, but for the life of me, being born in 1952, I can't recall ever seeing a vanilla bean. Our bakery used vanilla extract, all the way back to the 1940s.

Vial K looks a lot like black pepper to me. Always thought Vial H would be Celery Seed. Ditched it only because of corporate allergen lists to be honest. One of the yummiest spices ever. Always had great results with it. Time to bring back Celery Seed. Maybe this is where your Anise fondness really comes from.
