Not in 1955ish when one Views the old Tins from 1935's it says amount which would be 1% back then two handfuls were added at the Cumberland Lake time when he made 500 Pieces of chicken.

When talking about handfuls of solids (which can easily heap when scooped) each handful is likely to be at least the equivalent of a cup. There are 48 teaspoons in a cup, and 4.2 grams of MSG in a teaspoon.
2 handfuls x 48 teaspoons/handful x 4.2 grams/teaspoon ~= 403 grams
403 grams/28.35 grams/ounce ~= 14 ounces
That translates directly via scaling into 7 grams added to every 200 grams of cake flour (to put it in our terms). And if CHS's hands are bigger than mine he could easily have tossed in 16 ounces.
Call it 12 to 16 ounces of MSG added on that memorable day.
Whereas OTOH, 70 grams is only about 2-1/2 ounces. Or a paltry 1-1/4 ounces per handful.

I went to the Liberty and retained 10 independent spice wholesale companies and Task them with one simple request for ALL
The task was Think 1955, and gave them the words of CHS throwing 2 handfuls into his existing Mix.
What 2 handfuls would have represented and asked them to research and weigh out 2 handfuls as there OWN determination was.
when the Dusted settled and almost 100% unanimous to over reasonable double standards in law to 98% the weight they found was
a handful of MSG was 35grams so two would be 70 grams or 1/3 cup
so 9 out of 10 found 35grams to be a handful of MSG
It was independent and they used there own reference to figure out a handful as they determined
they were asked to then wear gloves and due 5 test weights of MSG as they defined and weighted 2 handfuls of the MSG there companies had in stock.
was this a perfect test HELL NO was it independent and each on there own HELL yes NOT one of the other companies knew who were doing it or why they all did it for FREE.
so in my mind when Companies who sell spices for a LIVING in 2022 do the test and they determine the amount I will stick with there amount until its disproved by another independent out reach.
OH and McCormick, and Griffith Labs were 2 of the companies who weighed the amounts so it was NOT some SMOES doing it LOL and also 2 University who teach Food science also weighed in

The density of granulated table sugar is listed as 4.62 grams per teaspoon. The density of Aji-No-Moto MSG is listed as 4.05 grams per teaspoon.
4.05/4.62 = 0.8766
Scoop up and then weigh 2 cupped handfuls of table sugar, then multiply the total weight by 0.8766 and you will know what weight 2 handfuls is close to.
