CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN the reason to Limit to ONLY 5 Items ?
The ONLY reason it was done in a court case was to NOT let people make the ORIGINAL KFC ?

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN the reason to Limit to ONLY 5 Items ? The ONLY reason it was done in a court case was to NOT let people make the ORIGINAL KFC ? You actually just explained it. If the court case established a legal precedent forbidding the commercial duplication of the essence of KFC OR via restriction to 5 ingredients beyond B&W Pepper, as well it could legally be construed, then that precedent should be binding upon all commercial establishments. And thus their need to comply with it.

Another shot at constructing a note delivering recipe when confronted with only 5 ingredients beyond B&W Pepper: Speculative (yet critical) presumptions: 1) 2 Grams of Caraway will deliver the nuttiness of 1,50 grams of Coriander, plus the licorice of 0.50 grams of Anise Seed. 2) 0.5 grams of Nutmeg will make up for both the Nutmeg deficiency of Allspice, and the lack of any Mace. 3) Hopefully the Cinnamon overload of Allspice will get a pass and not ruin everything.

Of course if Chickenman 's assessment that the heat of Black Pepper is well more pronounced than that of White rings true, and if deepfriednew101 is correct in assessing that the heat of Pepper is better retained if left in larger chunks, then Cayenne Pepper may not be required whereby to express the requisite characteristic of pepper bite, and that opens the door to restoring the proven Coriander Seed and Anise Seed combination.

But if Caraway can sub for both Coriander and Anise Seed, and Cinnamon is not required (whereby Allspice can be removed), and if boosted Nutmeg can cover for both itself and the lack of Mace, then this reduced ingredient set option allows for an Herb to be added. And if Mexican Oregano can adequately stand in for Sage, Thyme, Savory, and a common Oregano or Marjoram, then might this thereby prove to be the best of all of the reduced ingredient set options?
Admittedly there are a lot of "if's" to be resolved here. Who is willing to step up to the plate and take a swing at cooking this recipe?

Something like this might be all that's actually required whereby to deliver the note of KFC OR. If it fails to deliver the note, try adding 0.50 grams of finely ground Anise Seed (Aniseed) and test it again. Either that, or try bumping the Mace up to 0.50 grams.

Special Note to those who live in regions of the world where Cilantro is called Coriander:
The Coriander seen within my above recipe is the seed, not the leaves or stalk or stems, or flowers, etc...

I would throw a Red Spice into the mix
Chilli, Red Pepper, Paprika, Cayenne
They all add a Aroma to the Mix if your looking for the Aroma *NOTE*
I think that there is No dispute that the Pepper is the Highest Aroma, Sage is Heavy in the Spice and Herb Bag also.
The Pepper is noticeable both in raw state and cooking. Ginger, Allspice also it one part of aroma also more while cooking. There is the Exotic NOTE that only found in the K.F.C. cooking
