I tried Fenugreek. It is the most overpowering spice I have ever used, even more so than cumin and clove. I ended up using such a tiny amount. I personally actually like the taste of Fenugreek (which is more than I can say for cumin and clove), but even at small amounts I didn't think it was benefiting my recipes. Still doesn't change my opinion at all. It is definitely not more overpowering than cumin, or clove. Maybe about the same, and when it does overpower, it overpowers in a less noticeable way than cumin/clove would. You only need 1/8tsp - tad under 1/4tsp to 350g flour. Just because a spice is strong and can overpower a recipe in excess amounts doesn't mean it's not in the recipe, it just means you used too much.

I Still ask this Please show a OLD Spice Tin of Fenugreek from the 1930,or 1940 up until the 1950's It Is either so rare or it's as Hidden as East Frisians Recipe Assuming Sanders was being honest when he said "common to everyones shelf" It is in vintage curry spice tins from 1930's as is Coriander seed. No tin for coriander yet many agree and use it? Who knows why he said "common to everyones shelf" but a little common sense will tell you it was impossible. It was not common for anybody to have all the ingredients for his recipe on their kitchen shelves at all. Most would only have the basics like salt, pepper, chilli, cinnamon, garlic, herbs. Many commonly available spices/ herbs are not on everybody's kitchen shelf at all.

Also, when he said "common to everyones shelf" he never specified whose shelf. Methi (fenugreek) is very common to Indian peoples kitchen shelf.
You need to break free of the "11 individual herbs/spices" and also the "common to everyones shelf" because it is really keeping you in a narrow box. Where has it got you so far?

Good Seasons, Lipton Tomato Soup, Ac'cent, curry, Aromat, Maggi, Knorr, BBQ spice, Catsup spice..........The only thing I believe, without a doubt, is that the ingredients were found on everyone's shelves.

Are you saying you believe the ingredients were on everyone's shelf, but some of them not on everyone's shelf as an individual spice, but instead being contained in a mix?

The is usually NOT 11 spice Tins brough in from the 1940's MOST Families ONLY had possibly 7 spices and that would be a HIGH amount of spices

Yes that is correct.
So YOU say? I camped out once next to CHS and he told me that he used a swamp grass that he found in his neighbors yard. I can prove my statement as easily as you can prove yours.

You tell me, as you seem to know everything, and comment on it, except, of course, for the OR.
