Also, i played around with the ginger today, (lowered the amount drastically) I can now see that ginger is one of the key ingredients to creating that amazing aroma. I also added some mustard back in today and i was very impressed. I am again looking into mustard but have ruled out celery seed completely. Chickenman , what are your current 11? Same as before, just with tarragon and mustard added.

CHS added a splash of Heinz Tarragon Vinegar in the Original Gravy.
If you have NEVER added Vinegar into your Gravy Next time you make Gravy divide it into 2 Pots or Portions add some Vinegar into 1 and cook it into the Gravy near the end of the Thickening of the Gravy. It adds a Flavor which is Truly special. Many think wine was added to the Gravy. a splash is needed not a large Volume.
Because Tarragon Vinegar is Harder to find Just add some Tarragon into the Vinegar and let it sit for 30 minutes.
Bill S and CHS had a discussion about Marion Kay having the BEST CINNAMON and GINGER Also Remember the Two Stories where KFC Franchises were adding extra Ginger into the Spice mix, Also Tommy Settle In court said to KFC when they claimed the recipe they found was a Stuffing Recipe Tommy commented NO STUFFING recipes have GINGER.
When KFC says that people would be surprised about the 11 Spices and Herbs. I would Say White Pepper, Cinnamon, Ginger are 3 Surprise Items.

Suppose he used tamarind and molasses, from dried and powdered Worcestershire, or something else, like kitchen bouquet, or maggi like bouillon, or New Zealand Marmite / Promite /yeast extract). It is several, but it is one, depending on how you count. He seemed savvy enough to give the answer people wanted to hear. It seems like the 11 herbs and spices nomenclature came along pretty well after the buyout. Before that it included the word seasonings. And before that I’m not sure when the 11 count was even first described. The old ads from the 50’s don’t seem to mention it. 70 years have gone by so the single ingredients have been tested a bit… I strongly believe all 11 herbs and spices are individual ingredients, common to everyones shelf, just as the Colonel said. The only ingredient i can see as actually being two ingredients is the pepper. So as an example:
Everyone would have had poultry seasoning on their shelf. Some people might think of it as 1 ingredient they use. Specially back in the day. But by the ingredients, most contain items like Thyme, Sage and Marjoram etc. So I respectfully disagree that people using blended spices won't find the answer. I'd be more apt to believe CHS reversed blends to cover any issues with royalties.

Ginger to me now plays a real important part and I lean towards it combined with the right pepper ratios.
