Remember there was a HUGE price difference in spices FROM the Original 1930's to the 1950's ish when Brown and Massey took over
Cardamom was NOT a expensive spice in the 1930's it was on a similar $ value as many other spices NOT like 2022 where its a Huge difference
We have cans showing all around the 20 cent Price range for Tins of spice in the 1925 to 1930 then some increased BUT as a average spice was 10 cent a ounce as a Average

Cardamom is an amazing spice. I had great success with it too. Gives you this sweetish fragrance you cannot really identify. I had concerns about how common it would have been and the costs. But flavourwise never questioned it. When I did my vials research, I always thought that vial K looked very much like coarsely ground cardamom. Who knows...

Trying the tarragon tomorrow, taking a break for now. That it was stated that the recipe contains surprises isn't quite a breakthrough, as this has been public knowledge for some time. What is amazing however is the human proclivity to ignore this 'in your face' statement and stick with the ingredients program decided for us long ago by the very first (and now defunct) forum to pursue KFC OR. A rat in a maze will try different paths until it finds the cheese. Humans however like to feel as if they belong to a 'community', right or wrong, and therefore prefer to travel the community trodden path forever, never to find the cheese. Only thinking outside of the box can lead to breakthroughs. Thinking inside the long standing "ingredients comfort zone" box forever will not. I'm looking forward to hearing your assessment of the flavor benefit/detriment from trying Tarragon. My next small steps outside of the box will be to add a touch of Smoked Paprika, and to venture into Mexican Oregano.

You are correct that statement was said and points out a GREAT POINT that back in 2020 we threaded about and then it swept under the carpet Glad its revisited. Tarragon was NOTE in the 1966 Famous Chicken vs. KFC Court Case CHS use ONLY Heinz Tarragon Vinegar and Tarragon in the Recipes.

One thing I am sure of, there is something that gives KFC its special Aroma, and that thing didn't hit my oil yet.
The note, the taste, is 'easier' to achive and even surpass, but after trying most of the spices and herbs I still have no idea what that thing could be that makes KFC Aroma so unique.
It will be a surprise to me I am sure.

That it contains blends off spices poultry or chili or both or others. Could be it contains ingredients not thought to be used in fried chicken.
Agree with the others. Look under every stone.

Remember White Pepper Was a Not known Item in 1935's-ish Time Era
KFC Marketing Magnet is Great with words to keep the stigma going that is a certain thing
So when they say surprise it still Surprise Baffles Thousand today ? That WHITE PEPPER is in the KFC CHICKEN
I think what's more Key is CHS saying he took certain spices and combined them to make another spice?
