I have yet to try tarragon. Last time I had real KFC I was locked into a herb I could smell. I went through all my spices but forgot tarragon as I had just bought it and hadn't moved it to my spice store.
I can smell licorice in mine but also a perfume kind of smell. It's fresh so I should try some soon

I do not believe tarragon is in the recipe anymore. I'm not sure why the first time when i used it, it delivered a beautiful liquorice/vanilla like flavour but now it's just not doing anything? i'm 99% sure i did not add aniseed when i used the tarragon but maybe i did and that was the reason for the anise flavour? I was also watching this thing by Gordon Ramsay about herbs, and he mentioned that tarragon is a soft herb that should be added towards the end of cooking. Doesn't make sense to add a soft herb at the start of cooking in hot oil. I also thought that maybe my tarragon had gone bad, so bought some PREMIUM tarragon leaves that were grown in france and although it is much higher quality it seems to have even less anise flavour than the grocery store stuff. What are your current eleven? The same as before. Most of my herbs and spices are 100%ers for me and will never change, such as Allspice, nutmeg, ginger, pepper, sage, red pepper.

Precisely who was the valid authoritarian source (with a true insider knowledge of the subject) that first detailed and defined for us the most common 11 ingredients that all of us now seem to repetitiously (or might I venture to say, endlessly) use over and over again in the hope that somehow "this time it will be different" and thereby what was Nirvana for CHS will magically become Nirvana for us?

tried caraway, 100% in the recipe. It gives a very noticeable nice sweet smell to the aroma. Works much better than coriander. I am now replacing coriander with caraway permanently.

I'm still using Celery Seed instead of Coriander. The one time I added Caraway I was disappointed, albeit that it's always possible that my disappointment may have been rooted elsewhere within the recipe. But I believe that deepfriednew101 is a big fan of Caraway Seed.

I even feel like my mission has come to an end that is how good the caraway worked for me, just a few tweaks etc and i reckon i have cracked it now.

I feel I'm close as well. Having not tried caraway in years. I appreciate your feedback and will be sure to try it as a swap in my latest recipe. Coriander, celery seed and caraway were the biggest unsure area for me. I favored celery seed over coriander. I could find the same with caraway.
Deepfriednew101 provided some evidence that coriander wasn't much of a thing in the time frame CHS would have been working on the real OR.

Yeah i've known about caraway for years but always overlooked it thinking "nah that isn't in it" but you really can't say unless you try it and see for yourself. I'm blown away by how well it worked for me. I am more sure about caraway than any other herb or spice i've tried. If i had to bet money on 1 spice that is in the recipe, caraway would be it 100%.
