Why does everyone seem to use summer savory? when i first used summer savory i wasnt that impressed with it, it's something you could easily substitute. This time i decided to buy winter savory and WOW it is way way better imo. At first i was confused because i thought to myself "i have smelt that somewhere before" it took me about a day to realize it smells literally identical to taco seasoning i buy from the store. I'd say it also reminds me of cumin which the taco seasoning contains and i'd also say it's more true to the name "savory" it smells savory.

Chickenman , most herb and spice websites try to discourage Winter Savory, calling it harsh and bitter. Glen specifically called for Summer Savory. Between these two, I had essentially written it off. As purely an aside (such as to not get this sidetracked) the same websites say pretty much the same with regard to Mexican Oregano vs. Mediterranean Oregano. But the Mexican version smells delicious compared to raggedy and rough edged Mediterranean. My wife noticed this right away, and now she wants to try the Mexican Oregano.

I'll have to search for it in the USA. Don't skip out on it thinking it's anything like the summer savory because trust me it's not, entirely different smell to me. The summer savory really smells almost like nothing to me.

The summer savory really smells almost like nothing to me. If your summer savory doesn't smell or lacks flavour, try to get a better and fresher quality. Mine is packed with flavour. Last time I wanted to refill my jar though, I bought a different brand and it was bland and tasteless as you describe. If that would have been my first experience with summer savory, I would have disregarded it immediately. With regards to winter savory, keep in my mind it is rather unpopular. You will only find it online. Some have argued summer savory wasn't a thing at the time of CHS. Well if that is a concern to, then forget about winter savory. Every time you read 'savory' as an ingredient, it will always be summer savory.
