Who among us truly believes that in order to capture the elusive note of KFC OR one must actually use 11 Herbs and Spices? Perhaps 7 is plenty. What say ye?

I'm a minimalist. I love reducing things to what's absolutely necessary. I think if you want the full experience, you actually do need 11 herbs & spices. However, if I really had to reduce this number, 8 would be the lowest I would go.

Is it possible that CHS selected a basket of 'nominally' 11 H&S into which he could freely dip, yet for any single note expressing recipe formulation he only dipped into perhaps 7 or 8 of them? I see no reason why this potential conception should be carte blanche rejected.
Edit: If Glen is correct, then Grace's coating mix has only 8 H&S.

Grace's looks to me what a reduced recipe would look like. Reduced for whatever reason. Same with Marion Kay. MK sell 3 "KFC" items now, the blend, the blend plus salt and a ready to use breading. Now if you look up Paprika on their web shop, in the description they write: Add to flour used for coating chicken. Wait a second. So when you are convinced Paprika belongs in a chicken coating, why do you obviously not add it and ask your customers to do so?
The stories of reduced formulations due to legal issues make sense to me. So Glens lists is at least short of Paprika (or any other capsicum) and Garlic. At least.

Sorry, MK sell 4 products. I forgot their more garlicy blend. Which again is a strong hint.

I go to the mk website and allspice NOT say USE FOR COATING CHICKEN. SO no ALLSPICE you think? Any Other S&H that DO SAY? Allspice is in MK's poultry seasoning. Poultry seasoning has been discussed a lot, and many think it could have been a starting point for CHS. Or even one item on its own. Allspice is shown on an official photograph from KFC Japan if that means something to you.

For Poultry Seasoning brands A through F, all of them have Allspice as an ingredient. Most at 5% by weight, but with one at 10% by weight. Sexton's famous Poultry Seasoning had Allspice.

Add Black Pepper to the list(s) of Poultry Seasoning ingredients, and there are your 11 H&S.

None of the Poultry Seasonings has either Celery Salt or Coriander Seed. Based upon the highly desirable taste explosion that Celery Seed delivers, it would not surprise me to discover that the ingredient tossed in (as 2 handfuls) on that fateful day in 1955 was discovered to be Celery Seed.
I still surmise that Coriander only came along after Celery Seed began being identified as an Allergen.
