Yes, some form of Paprika, too. It is an ingredient in the OR and declared as such until today as an extract. It is so obvious that KFC printed it on its packaging. I was confused about this ingredient for quite some time because of what Glen "revealed" I must admit. I would guess it to be a mixture of Paprika and Cayenne, but not sure. However, you will not see a huge difference in the finished product if you use paprika only or a blend in my opinion. Maybe some heat, depending on the amount used.

There are a minimum of at least 10 different kinds of Paprika. Per one source I came across there are 8 "delineated/defined" Hungarian varieties, plus Sweet and Smoked.
So it is perhaps critically inadequate to merely proclaim that KFC contains Paprika. There is an overall similar issue for Chili Powder, wherein no two spice blenders mixes will taste exactly the same.

I haven't had KFC in a very long time. Maybe years. As we were on a long trip a few weeks ago, I decided to have some again on the road, since my wife never actually had KFC but witnessed my sessions and trials. We were both utterly disgusted. No taste at all. Only salt, grease and MSG. I am not one of those that keep saying this and that was better back in the days etc, but KFC went down the hill completely. So ANY chicken you make using only the first 5 ingredients will be better and more flavourful than any temporary KFC product. At least where I live. I am sorry to say this. I wish I could say otherwise. What started as an adventure for me became mandatory. I'm saying this to encourage you, keep up the good work. I boldly titled this thread "The End" because I am absolutely sure to have cracked the 11 AND the ratios. Stick to my 11 and you will succeed, I promise. In the meantime, here are two pics from me. I fully agree that modern KFC Original Recipe is lousy. I'm enthused at your diligence, and I'm eager to hear of your 11 and their ratios. An entire recipe would be fantastic. I've mentioned of late that as each of us come ever closer to the goal our recipes ingredients and ratios are nominally trending toward some level of common ground. This forum needs to see far more actually cooked recipes.
