KFC has full Right over ones who have a legal or lawful contractual obligation to Franchise or otherwise. They can use the Legal arm of civil court to hold accountable anyone through contract law which would hold only 1 of 2 possibilities.
Monetary Compensation Civil Contempt
it would not be a criminal situation unless KFC alleges Criminal or Griffith or otherwise alleges criminal activities to obtain the recipe. Then the Party could say the recipe was stolen and becomes criminal in nature which has happen on occasions. It has been more occasions where people try and get Money or Otherwise from KFC and they either shut it down like the Tommy and Shelly Settler situation.
BUT KFC seems NOT to want to discuss the Other occasion where people found a recipe from someone who cooked at KFC ? and disclosed BBQ spice Chili spice etc ?
KFC picks and chooses who they go after ?

After the Settler's were given back the recipe and the charges were dropped, whatever became of their recipe discovery? Was it ever revealed?

The Settlers were given Back the Recipe.
There were NO charges dropped but KFC Dropped the Civil Lawsuit against Tommy and Cherry Settler
The Settler Story
In 1973, Tommy & Cherry Settle bought the dinner house, Claudia Sanders Dinner House
Cherry was the national sales hostess for Kentucky Fried Chicken and worked closely with Colonel on teaching new employees his standards and practices.
After the Lawsuit was Dropped by KFC Tommy worked for KFC as a ambassador to the company and signed a NON Disclosure contract with a 6 digit paycheck plus benefits.
BUT while fighting the Lawsuit Tommy Let KFC have his words
"It's in the Colonel's handwriting," says Tommy Settle. "I know what goes into a chicken recipe and those [ingredients in the note] go in a chicken recipe."
He also Commented when KFC said it was a Stuffing recipe "he said GINGER does not go in a stuffing recipe"
The Settlers were given back the Recipe and said they would sell the recipe to cover court cost ?
KFC Paid ALL court Cost and the Settlers Legal Cost ?
The recipe was never sold or spoke about again?

Although I'm old enough to have 'potentially' first tasted the Colonel's chicken a bit before the mid 50's, how would I know how to identify it's flavor from back then, at my age, and after having eaten KFC chicken for decades, and having lived through potentially multiple flavor impacting changes?

The question I posed above was asked of me by my wife.

Greasiness was a big part of the overall flavor profile. To duplicate the "original" one would also need to be able to duplicate that aspect of it. But it isn't possible to buy the shortenings that were commonly used back then, as they have been outlawed.

You can make or get Beef Tallow it is available and contrary to many theory Beef Tallow was used in many places even when Massey/Brown owned the Franchise. The Hydronated Vegetable oil was said to keep people away from the Flavor Profile and even like McDonalds Beef Tallow and Other Oils were Blended together for Flavor
The Flavor of Original is NOT hard miss it taste way better
if you compare the Mew Age KFC ALL you taste is Lightly season salted FLOUR. NOT the Depth and Profile of Herb and Spice. IF you Taste Herbs and Spice with a medium Salt then you know your getting to the OLD KFC.
The Yeast helps get the Flavor and the extra Greasy consistency when deep fried like a Donut. It helps retain some of the greasy while cooking the yeast if you use a correct Egg/Milk soaking it also helps with the Pre-Dusting Flour its those combinations that make a great Profile Chicken.
The KFC New Age also has no inner chicken Flavor like the Old Original KFC which was Marinade Overnight typically. to let the seasoning pernitrate the meat KFC New relies on Brine and Preservative based brine. NO flavor profile to the chicken.
The BIG THING I SUGGEST is throw the theory that OLD KFC MANUALS say 26gr etc. That was Massey / Brown BOOKS
CHS did HANDS ON TRAINING in the kitchen NO BOOK.
you touched tasted and smelled the seasoned flour and if it was NOT strong enough you added more seasoning to the flour and sifted it. They did NOT throw away Flour ever the extra flour that was seasoned that was older got used for the Mil crackling Gravy Rue. THERE WAS NO WAISTE
I have maintained this principle test the Herb and Spices, MSG with Flour and MINIMAL Salt. When you can really taste the Herbs and Spices you know the amount is Correct then you increase the Salt. If the Herb and Seasoning is not tasted your to low in amount Original gave you a taste of the spices and herb

All Brand Corporations can have a situation with knock-offs, one offs, look a like, home fabricated, and counterfeit items. If you go to any Flea Market world wide I'm sure you can find a Rolex Water and Nike look a like.
As for KFC New Age Corporation, they contend with all situations like all the others the have contingent plans already in place for any situation. If some one has a real recipe buy them out, If someone steals it get a court order quicker then a police department, They have a plan for every situation.
So did CHS when his competition painted over CHS billboards in the 1950's and CHS caught them doing it a Gun Battle started which left 2 dead. So I guess KFC New Age Corporation just handles the Situation like CHS.
The Big situation every one has in the technology is they cannot keep up with the Rumor and or Tabloid's but they can spend millions to pre-plan and have a game plan when it happens.
When your a Billion Dollar Corporation you don't have street corner lawyers a telephone call away. You push a button in the corporate tower and the Lawyer walk to your desk.
This is why any and All Franchise people who have information are bound by a Non Disclosure contract which if they breach they loose there franchise and or and and all monies they have in there investment.
The Napkin as a example would test the Law of Patent and Trade Mark infringement a civil law situation. It would be treated like the Box company KFC suit, and Similar to Marion-Kay. Two separate legal issues where KFC allege Trade Mark and Patent right situations.
The Napkin was if I'm correct surfaced on YouTube with a Youtuber name Gen ? BUT I was told it was in circulation but have not been able to confirm or deny such a claim. I would Buy some for the collection if they did make market?
There is No law stop people from making the Knock-Offs but there is Law about Profiting from the sale of the items without consent of the Manufacture and a License to make them.

Is it possible to legally market a fried chicken that sort of (as if by accident) tastes like KFC, but never makes mention of any KFC secrets or KFC ingredients or KFC trademark slogans or for that matter KFC itself in any fashion?
