I spent some time this morning perusing a number of KFC related videos from among the 10 part 'Glen And Friends Cooking' YouTube series. In one of these videos comparing a progression of nominal copycat attempt recipes to the real deal the first and foremost critique for each sequential copycat tasted, straight down the line, went something like this (my paraphrasing):
Not as peppery as KFC Not as peppery as KFC Not as peppery as KFC

Silver YOU are 1000% correct
Then Glen attempts his own version of a Blend and Does NOT give a accurate description of the chicken BUT says its not correct only ?
He Did state on 2 videos the one with Vanilla and Jewel also says the BEST flavored Chicken also 1 other video which had MORE spices then ALL the Other recipes and it was Great chicken
its also FUNNY that ALL these YouTubers make recipes and say that 99x was to weak and then they don't make a Corrected version of the 99X with increased seasoning

But Glen appears to mistakenly identify it as one of Ken's recipes. It may have been liked a lot, but it was also noted to not taste like KFC as I recall. We have all been there with some of our own recipes...
I'm fairly certain that one of the "Not Peppery Enough" recipes was 99-X.

KFC Colonels Employee Recipe Episode #7 This recipe comes to us in a a series of anonymous untraceable emails... As the story unfolded there were a lot of plausible ‘truths’ that led us to believe that this was for real. Will this Original KFC recipe hold up? Is this really the secret KFC recipe?
Ingredients:
102g (12 Tbsp / 36 tsp) white pepper 66g (9 Tbsp +1 tsp / 28 tsp) black pepper 18g (4 Tbsp / 12 tsp) ground sage 5g (2 tsp) ground coriander 18g (2 Tbsp / 6 tsp) ground ginger 11g (4 tsp) of cayenne 5g (2 tsp) vanilla bean powder 5g (1 Tbsp / 3 tsp) ground bay leaf 5g (1 Tbsp / 3 tsp) ground savory 2g (1 tsp) ground clove 4g (2 tsp) ground cardamom seeds 19g (4 tsp) msg 480g (24 Tbsp / 72 tsp) salt

The 200 grams of flour scaling factor for the above recipe seems (based upon the Salt) to be on the order of about 16 to 17 to 1. Call it 16.5. I can't see wasting my time trying it.

Why did Glen abandon the vanilla recipe to the status of 'one and done', while favoring Dustin's recipe for multiple attempts? Particularly after the vanilla recipe was so well liked. The only logical answer seems to be that Glen's focus was upon capturing the flavor/note of KFC OR, and this recipe did not qualify from that perspective.

I think he is more focused on comparing the NEW AGE KFC taste NOT the Original KFC CHICKEN.
ANYONE who remembers the ORIGINAL KFC from Pre 1980's KNOW that the Original KFC Chicken had WAY MORE Flavor and although the same Profiles as the NEW AGE KFC it was different.
The Best reference where discussion of Different Flavor Chicken fall on 5 court cases.
CHS vs KFC New Age Chicken Famous Brand Chicken vs KFC NEW AGE Chicken Marion Kay vs KFC NEW AGE Chicken Pat's Famous Brand Chicken Settle Vs KFC NEW AGE Chicken
in each and every case the there was comments regarding Chicken Taste.
CHS said that THE New Age KFC changed the recipe and it was NOT tasting Good Like the Original Recipe.
Famous Brand had more Flavor then the NEW AGE KFC as they were using the Original Recipe.
Marion Kay chicken Seasoning was WAY WAY more flavored then the NEW AGE KFC and there were 100's complaints why did the chicken in some stores have way better chicken and the locations who were NOT using the Marion Kay Chicken Seasoning wanted the use the Marion Kay Seasoning NOT the NEW AGE Chicken seasoning. caused problems at store levels
Settle vs KFC when they did the cook off the Chicken both smelled similar but had different levels of taste and Many preferred Settle version over the NEW AGE KFC
Pat's also had the same issue more flavor then NEW AGE
THE only one who won against KFC was CHS because of the Sales contract NOT TO change the recipe.
Glen who claimed to Read ALL the court cases focused on comparing the NEW AGE vs ALL recipes. WITHOUT tasting the recipes I could have said that Dustin's was going to be the closet to NEW AGE as that's what Ken was trying to make and everyone was comparing also.
The real Problem now in 2022 is there are Few who were around the Original pre 1980's KFC chicken and even fewer around the 1975 Original Chicken.
The color of the Seasoning was Different, the Shortening was Different, Fresh Chicken was Different. BUT NEW AGE KFC still has the similar Aroma Note but way weaker
