This thread is exactly as the title says. Please do not use this thread as one for mere H&S related speculation. Use it only to describe what you actually believe that you can definitively taste when eating KFC OR (original recipe).
I'll start:
Salt
Pepper
A sort of quasi-stale (oxidized?) deep frying related cooking oil flavor
A Maillard reaction flavor that is sort of like the taste of properly made (I.E., not burnt) toast
A weak/mild background that is sort of like that of Chicken Bouillon. (with this one perhaps being a bias related stretch of my imagination)
I really can't say that I can "specifically" taste anything else. Although the aftertaste sort of reminds me of the aftertaste left in my mouth when I taste raw MSG.
Herein lies the problem for me. I can't definitively identify anything uniquely specific as to any herbs and/or spices. Nothing really stands out for me in this regard. Everything beyond Salt and Pepper and the oil contaminated Maillard reaction taste of oily toasted flour is so well integrated into the whole that no single H&S related ingredient beyond Pepper specifically/definitively jumps out at me.
I wonder what a well salted and peppered and MSG sprinkled piece of white bread toast would taste like after being partially (perhaps no more than 1/8 - 1/4 of it) dipped into warm cooking oil that has been used 3-4 times already to deep fry seasoned and breaded/coated chicken?
