Today's scrambled egg herb/spice contenders were Sage, Rosemary, Savory, and Thyme.
As to ranking them for flavor: 1) Rubbed Sage 2) Rosemary Sticks 3) Ground Summer? Savory 4) Thyme Sticks
Comments: 1) Rubbed Sage easily tasted best of the four, but not as good overall as Mexican Oregano. 2) Rosemary was a lot like Sage, but it was sticks vs rubbed, and the sticks were annoying. Nowhere near as overpowering vs. Sage as I had initially envisioned. Actually close to the same as to flavor/strength. Clearly more pine tasting than Sage. 3) Savory has a rather annoying earthy bitterness, but was better than I expected after I got into eating it. It undeniably has flavor (good or bad). Not my cup of tea. Needs to be hidden among the others. 4) Just as for Rosemary, Thyme may have scored better if I had pre-ground it. Chewing sticks doesn't cut it. By comparison with the others it's flavor is noticeably the least pronounced. Not a lot of flavor in fact. Flavor may have been more noticeable if I didn't have the others to compare it with.
If anything, Thyme is the one I would leave behind. As to their perceived best descending order of addition quantity, I would now be inclined to add more Sage, a midrange amount of Rosemary, less Savory, and zero Thyme.
