Canada was the Second Location World Wide shortly after Peter Harmon
The location was in Calgary Alberta.

I’m interested in sorting out the history if you can fill in some extra info about this early Calgary location :
1952 - Pete and Arline get started as soon as Sanders leaves for Australia
1952 Pete’s Brother Dave add’s it to The Harmon Ranch Restaurant. The Red Barn was along the Tempe-Mesa highway, Arizona
1953 Calgary, Alberta? Address? Business name? Part of an Inn or restaurant? Was this person at the dinner with Pete ? I seem to recall some possibility of this. If so, what would the connection be?
1953 (November) Pete adds the Sugerhouse as a second location
1954 reference to Joe Young selling Kentucky Fried chicken from hamburger stand on 8th street in Saskatchewan / Saskatoon Canada. “El rancho” business.
1954 Darell Gilliam, Kokomo Indiana, becomes second signed franchisee of Kentucky Fried Chicken, per some reports. (There may be a distinction of “signed franchise” vs handshake deal)
1954 Kaelin’s Restaurant, Louisville, Carl and Margaret owners, cheeseburger inventor in 1934 - one of first franchises, closed on a handshake. became a training location.
1955 Orillia Ontario Franchise started at Carters’ restaurant
1955 Sanders takes out full page ad listing at 8 franchisees to contact for more info, including 1) Harmon, 2) H.A Harry, Breeseway Restaurant, Davenport Iowa, 3) Ted Cullen, Bluebird Restaurant, Morristown, Indiana; 4) Carl Kaelin, Kaelin’s Restaurant, Louisville, Kentucky; 5) George Yonko The Chuck Wagon, Gary, Indiana; 6) Edward Clark, Robert E. Lee Motel, Bristol Virginia; 7) Eldred Dresden, Triangle Drive-In Dixon Illinois; 8) Henry Boxman Boxman’s, Bloomington Indiana.
1955 Joseph and Madeline Young open second franchise in Canada in Saskatoon
1956 Barney Gelfand opens Barney’s franchise in Calgary
1961, Red Deer, Alberta. John and Mary Konopaki operated the Peacock Inn there from May 1948 to 1970, and had a franchise in 1961.

I'm Sorry Your Information is Incorrect in orders of Canada Franchises.
Calgary was the Second Location ever Franchised In KFC EVER, after Peter Harmon in Salt Lake City.
Canadian KFC Website Can Confirm such.
It's well Documented in Canadian History and there is NO Dispute when it was open in Canada.
CHS even ON television and Books say Calgary Alberta was second

I know what they said, and I’m often wrong. I was hoping you might have some new information.
Calgary could be the second franchise and not the second new outlet.
Pete’s brother wasn’t a new franchise per se, as it was Pete’s brother. Outlets aren’t the same as franchises, as I’m sure you know.
I’d love some new information, if you have it.

It seems like it would be at around this time that they would be pursuing powdering any liquid ingredients, if there were any, so as to distribute a purely powdered seasoning to distribute to franchisees. If, for instance, the original used a small amount liquid flavoring like Worcestershire, or molasses, it would be helpful to powder it. Lee’s used a honey dip, which seems like perhaps he was copying something.
I wondered if there might be a Perkins Products connection, for instance, as he forged an early path with a well known powdered drink mix, and then what looks like the first Good Seasons, before General Foods bought him out in 1953.
