I keep getting asked this question over and over and need to repeat the Knowledge Freely Given by CHS and Claudia
The MSG was not in the Original 11 Spice and Herbs recipe it was added in after in 1955ish.
CHS gave many interviews in Canada and said that He added 1 last item 16 Years after he developed the 11 Spices and Herbs. The Video was even on Canada's Own Web Site for year's.
Look at the Vials if you believe in them Where is there a WHITE POWDER MSG which Vial ?
MSG is the 12th Element as CHS called it he Did NOT call it a Spice or Herb
If it's in the Vial's which ONE please Tell everyone

MSG has been used By Processors and Cooking Establishment's to LOWER the Salt amount value up to 40%.
In countries and Regions where HEALTH REGULATIONS require certain Sodium content to be under certain Values ~ KFC jacks up the MSG to a Higher then Salt content Amount.
In countries where the MSG amount is regulated to 3% then they must Drop the volume of MSG and it falls lower in the Label list The the Number 1 Position when then need to meet Sodium Law requirements.
So Salt / MSG with interchange positions to meet country of original Laws and regulations with either sodium intake and or MSG intake.
KFC has Been accused of MSG violations in some countries in the Brine.
The other Major item of consequences for KFC has been Powdered Milk and Egg.
They have used replacers of Powdered Milk and Egg in countries with Kraft Dream Whip Topping which has Dextrose also, and in other countries they list other synthetic items and or custard THIS ITEM usually depends on the item and more used for Popcorn chicken and strips of other Pre-made items off location that are Open fryer cooked and NOT PRESSURE cooked.

During the early 60s, everyone knew about the Ac'cent in KFC. Those that claim it was a mystery are misguided.

The admittance that KFC used was 1967
That was the First Time period when K.F.C. openly Stated Yes M.S.G. is In K.F.C.

I'm telling you that in 1961/62 it was common knowledge that Ac'cent was in KFC. And I'm talking about us kids. I remember it quite well. Now with your stance, you must now convince all that I am a liar.

I will agree that the 1960's was when M.S.G. was acknowledged as a ingredient.
we only have a time difference of when.
I will state that it was later in the 60's as the Chinese issue with M.S.G. and syndrome was mid to late 60's when many places acknowledged M.S.G.
so it comes down to both being right please think about the Chinese syndrome Time period.

How did grade school kids find out about the msg, if the bag hadn't already been opened? After all, this was supposed to be top secret. I don't think CHS was as secretive as most believe. You yourself have maintained that CHS shared the recipe with everyone around. It wasn't until the "Corporate KFC" opened shop that pre-corporate information, including CHS's statements, began to disappear and be replaced with misinformation. Heck, they even sued him to get him to stand down.

I maintain that C.H.S. gave the Recipe to the Canadians who started the Charitable Organization and a Few others But He Did not give it to everyone around.
Corporate Sue C.H.S. for Slander in regards to the Greenwood Bowling incident and other verbal claims C.H.S. counter claimed that His Claims made were valid and the reason why the NEW AGE was so Bad was that NEW AGE changed His Recipes so any verbal reference to bad food was related to the Breach of contract for changing the recipes which He could speak about.
After Brown Settled the lawsuit with RJ Reynold's the New Age owners for C.H.S. There was a further agreement No Foul talk against the New Age K.F.C. and He was to ONLY speak at the Set arranged locations and functions that NEW Age specified
As for how did grade school kids find out about M.S.G that all depends on What Year your referencing ?
