In the Past while I have been asked Does Paprika NOT make the Chicken Spicy.
We have never had that issue BUT there are some Paprika that are a Spicy or Hot style
If you use a mild or sweet Paprika you should not have a OVER powering of spicy
It does discolor the Oil and make the Chicken a Redish not golden brown
what have others observed when using Paprika.

Sans for making Ledington's using tablespoons I've never used it (to date). Ledington's came out a deep brown/red, but I didn't know what I was doing back then, and some of that may be due to my having burned it a bit.
I have used Chili Powder, and my oil did eventually turn red.

Last week a wanted to try Paprika again, I went with 1/2 tsp Paprika to the 300g Flour I use..
The oil turned red again, imagine then if I used 1 or 2 tsp, let alone a tbsp
It is stated on the box that KFC uses Paprika, but I will only use my small hot dried Chili I grind fresh every time.

When did KFC remove Paprika? I distinctly recall that at one juncture the red vanished from it, but I can't recall when this occurred. My gut feeling is that it happened in the 1980's sometime.

They are using a WASHED Paprika extract
1976 was went they started a Golden Brown Campaign BUT it was the Campaign push then as for the exact date they stopped using it depends on what area country.
I think the 1975 era is a real start Time that was shown in Canada and Possibly the USA BUT if someone has the exact time great.
I Do Know they use the washed Paprika extract that was developed by McCormick a washed Paprika for commercial Use on request of KFC Oil discoloration and break down they developed the Washed Paprika in 1973

I'm actually quite surprised to discover that Sweet (aKa Mild) Paprika has a very noticeable and pleasing aromatic nature. I'm now wondering if the note can be derived from only Salt, Pepper, MSG, and Paprika?

There have been many that SAY you can't use sweet Paprika it Does NOT work MY question is I'm NOT to sure what they are doing? In any recipe where Paprika has been used WE adjust the Paprika in relationship to the type Mild, Medium, Sweet, Heat ? volume / amount all relevant to the ONE used. Again CHIRP CHIRP we test on the Eggs or Pasta. I was asked can you test spice On Mashed Potatoes YES you can We find the Egg and the Pasta much easier BUT if we have Mashed Potato the Spices and Herbs can be tested on the Mashed also. For the ones who say Paprika is NOT in the KFC I just they can explain WHY KFC had a SHORT time they posted it ON BOXES? Its Interesting this BOX only surfaced AFTER the Claudia Recipe was shown ? ? ?
