Yes we have tried many other items
Birds Eye Custard Dream Whip Instant Mashed Potato Meat Tenderizer Sausage Binder Cure Agents Butcher Potato chips. corn flakes Plus Plus Plus
all of the above have been tried with various outcomes the Major issue with ANY item is finding the AMOUNT value to be used.
The problem we have in try experimental items is TIME. As a general rule we Do testing on our Oil Clean out times in the Pressure cooker. even with pre prep work completed cooking 4 batch's takes hours and we still have to clean the equipment for the next day use.
in the items above we found great success with Cure Agent, Sausage Spice Binder, and Birds Eye Custard (replaced Powdered Milk and Powdered Egg)

Or a wheat corn flour blend?

Yes Corn Meal, Corn Flour, Corn Starch, Corn Syrup, Corn Flakes, Cream Style Corn,
I have seen all the above used and Can say Personally tested them.
It 1930's the Flour was a Tri-Blend Flour Wheat, Corn, Barely.
Corn starch makes a crunch, corn syrup makes a sweet
Corn Flakes gives both texture and sweet flavor
corn flour gives more depth in coating then plain flour
have even tried Corn Dog Flour used in the Fairs. worked better in a WET BATTER then dry flour but both worked. if you like Corn Dogs try this method.

There would seem to be some degree of similarity between liquid Corn Syrup and powdered Dextrose (which is also called Corn Sugar). Some differences include the "other ingredients" found within the commercial liquid sold as Corn Syrup, among which include the label identified additions of Vanilla and Salt (among potentially others). Vanilla, hmmm? Where have I heard that one before? Analysis? TC34d? Etc...

I've tried Rice Flour at about 25% of the flour. It made a good coating, but if blindfolded I would not be able to distinguish it from straight Cake Flour (or All Purpose, for that matter).
The one tine I tried ~25% Cornstarch (called Corn Flour in many countries) it came out well more crunchy. I didn't find crunchiness to be a characteristic of OR.
I'd be willing to try straight rice flour someday.

I want to say this ABOUT THE vanilla
it can make some GREAT GREAT chicken used Properly.
Vanilla, Carmel and Rum extract was used in many Brine to cover the SMELL of the Brine, and give flavor
