Rather than deep fry today, we wound up eating a Walmart Rotisserie Chicken. I grabbed our dried and finely chopped Sweet Basil and more than liberally poured it onto a thigh. Then I piled on black pepper, and added some salt for good measure. The taste was wonderful. Basil really does taste good on chicken. Even when it is a lot of Basil. I can't say it has any note to it, but it is enjoyably edible.
The load of Black Pepper had a rather sharp sting to it that White Pepper doesn't deliver. Big time. White Pepper would likely have been the better way to go when piling it on.
Next I added dried and finely chopped Dill Weed to a leg, along yet again with a load of black pepper and some salt. The Dill Weed did not excite me. It's edible, but it's not right somehow. Like eating a faintly pickled chicken. Nowhere near as tasty as the Basil. Wrong!!! Perhaps Dill Seed would have tasted much better. ?? I ended up pouring some Basil onto the leg, and it was greatly improved, though not to the degree as for the thigh which received no Dill Weed.

Based upon my Basil eating experiment it does not seem that Basil is worth experimenting with in the long run. You will likely still end up adding things such as Allspice or Clove or Star-Anise (or some combination of these) if you hope to evolve the note.

Thai and Holy basil stand up to heat much better than sweet basil. Holy basil has grown wild in the mid-South region for many years.
