Thanks to a trip to Amish Country, and our favorite Amish bulk foods store, I now have a couple ounces of Anise Seed.

I think I'll initially add 1/2 gram of it to my latest 10X sized recipe, such that only a hint of 0.05g. will be present within each 20 grams. I can always add more later...
I'm thinking that since Star-Anise has flavors associated with Cinnamon and Nutmeg and Clove, and Anise Seed does not (to my knowledge) express any of these flavors, it will prove to be the better bet for my applications overall. Since I'm boosting the Allspice back up whereby to terminate the short lived experiment with adding Clove and Nutmeg, I'll be getting plenty of Cinnamon and Nutmeg and Clove contribution from the Allspice, and more of these three will not be welcomed, so for that subtle hint of licorice, Star-Anise is out, and Anise Seed is in.

I have only used fennel and star anise in my recipes, i wasn't that impressed with the fennel but found star anise worked alot better (imo). However, i just opened my aniseed and it easily beats both the fennel and star anise. Much better aromas of toffee, caramel, and a milder liquorice smell. Definitely using this in the next batch im cooking up tonight
