After a review of roughly 10 internet recipes for Chili Powder I have identified these as the most commonly mentioned ingredients among them: Paprika (and/or some other) Mild Chili Pepper base Oregano Cumin garlic powder onion powder cayenne pepper (from zero on up depending upon how hot you like your Chili Powder) salt Since both of my recipes that best delivered up the 'note' contained Chili Powder, could a blend of these individual ingredients in some order as to weight bear some significance toward evolving the elusive 'note'? In mulling upon this I have created this proposed "Kitchen Sink" recipe idea:

I would again suggest trying a dust powder of the recipe on eggs or pasta
