Further reflection upon the KFC Rep's reply to the Suttle's, wherein he stated that their 11 H&S recipe (discovered in a house they purchased which was previously owned by CHS), and for which the Rep's reply was that it seemed to be about 5 items short, leads me to offer "Five Spice" as a possible solution to this intriguing dilemma. With '5' being a hint (or clue) coyly tossed out by the Rep.
Edit: Marion Kay states the ingredients of Five Spice as being "Black Pepper, Fennel, Star Anise, Cloves and Cinnamon".
Edit #2: It may prove interesting to try adding 1 full gram (as a starter, albeit that a tad more may actually and even likely be required) of Five Spice to a recipe built upon a base of 200 grams of flour. I'm basing this upon 0.18 grams of Star-Anise and 0.18 grams of Clove and 0.10 grams of Cinnamon being efficacious. Wherein 0.18 + 0.18 + 0.10 = 0.46 grams. That leaves 0.52 grams to be Black Pepper and Fennel, and these are the two most prominent components of Five Spice by weight as inferred by the ingredient listing order.
Edit #3: Might it be 'Five Spice' that CHS tossed (as "2 handfuls") into the recipe used to coat the 500 piece order served to the boating convention on that fateful and fortunate day of CHS's great discovery?
Edit #4: If you were going to leave printed recipes around in diverse places, for people like the Suttle's to discover once you are gone, might you leave off one critical item? The most critical and obscure one being a logical choice here. Five Spice perhaps?
Edit #5: deepfriednew101, no need to yet again inject your opinion that the two handfuls could only have been MSG here... (please)
Edit #6: Item #5 within the nephew Ledington discovered recipe is 'Celery Salt'. For all who insist Celery Salt cant possibly be an ingredient, might this be the place where the recipe should instead state "Five Spice"?
