I went back and checked and my "Kitchen Sink" had 0.25g Nutmeg, 0.15g Clove and 0.25g Allspice. And it was one of my favorite recipes to-date. Wouldn't take much to tweak it. Drop the Allspice, up the clove and give a little more away to where it most likely belongs

My first recipe based upon the Nutmeg and Clove premise:

Could those who swear they are tasting a hint of licorice in KFC_OR actually be tasting a hint of clove?
I must admit that I've never tasted either licorice or clove in KFC_OR, and I'm old enough to have 1st eaten it in the late 1950's.
Nutmeg has the potential to be one of the flavors though.
Is eugenol way overrated, or is it required at a feature level as part of the elusive 'note'?
How far can clove be pushed before it goes flavor/aroma/note negative?

The Original Pre 1980's had more defined Licorice Here is yet another modification, with this one intended to inject a bit of licorice. Opinions are welcome:

And here is the exact same recipe as for the one seen immediately above, sans scaled to 200 grams of cake flour (~1.5 Metric Cups, or ~1.6 USA Cups).

deepfriednew101 Silver I agree that the licorice flavor is in the recipe, it was a big leap forward when Ken started adding it to his recipes but imo it should be added in small quantities so that it shouldn't stand out on its own. Its such a powerful spice. Would fennel, caraway, or anise seed be a better choice I wonder? cfc

A quick note to state that Cake Flour weighs less per unit volume than does 'All Purpose' Flour.
For All Purpose Flour the 200 gram volume equivalents relationship is more likely to be ~1.4 Metric Cups, or ~1.5 USA Cups.
