Marjoram was used in Fried Chicken from the 1930's it was a staple in fried chicken and CHS USED IT

This morning I rather liberally sprinkled Marjoram onto about 2/3 of my scrambled eggs, and Mediterranean Oregano onto the other ~1/3. The Marjoram portion was so flavorless that I couldn't even detect it. The Oregano portion tasted bitter, and it had rank Italian Spaghetti Sauce like taste.
Mexican Oregano wins this test hands down!
Marjoram = zero (a big nothing burger) Ordinary Oregano = bitter/rank (don't try this at home! : tastes like it smells) Mexican Oregano = delicious (as delicious as it smells)

I guess the question for me is can you recreate Mexican Oregano with Marjoram plus others like Savory, Thyme etc. Mexican oregano sounds like it would be excellent to get us down to 1 ingredient covering for 3 or 4.
I can't head to my local grocery and get some. It's like savory for those in some parts of the US. Tons here, hard to get there. I can order form Amazon for sure but I couldn't walk out of a store with an arm full of ingredients and make chicken with it.

My best initial guess is that Savory, Coriander Seed, and Oregano (in some unknown ratio relationship) would make for a somewhat suitable substitute for Mexican Oregano.

Just a few thoughts. Uncooked and unaccompanied herbs & spices reveal only little as to what contribution they would make to a rather complex recipe formulation in my opinion. Also, if you have bad quality Marjoram, it cannot compete against good quality Mexican Oregano. Not saying this is the case here, but we should not ditch an item because the sample we have is lacking flavour. Thirdly, a harmonious orchestra cannot consist of 11 stand-out instruments. Maybe it is more about how simple ingredients work together instead of a complexity within single ingredients...

Sometimes Heating the spice like Marjoram in the Frying Pan in some butter and Cracking a egg onto the Hot Butter and Spice or Herb
There are two ways to Fry a Egg the seasoning warmed in the Pan with Butter and Oil and then there is spice and herb sprinkled on top.
Try also Sprinkling other Fruits like Black Pepper onto the Butter warming and the Aroma will explode into the Egg, also Ac'cent

I read where marjoram tastes like a mixture of Thyme and Basil. If that is true. Sage, Savory and Marjoram combined would cover a lot of ground when it comes to flavor profile. Perhaps a worth while test would be to mix Thyme and Basil and test for myself.

Perhaps a worth while test would be to mix Thyme and Basil and test for myself. It could be that Thyme, Basil, and Oregano = Marjoram (seeing that both Oregano and Marjoram feature Carvacrol). A first wild guess: 0.10 grams Thyme + 0.10 grams Basil + 0.10 grams Common (I.E., Italian, Mediterranean) Oregano ~= 0.30 grams Marjoram
