My wife took deepfriednew101's recommendation to make gravy out of some of our remaining 'Edition #5' flour, salt, msg, herbs, and spices mixture, and I can attest that it is some of the tastiest gravy I've ever experienced in my life. And my wife concurred. We are both hooked on making gravy from our excess chicken coating flour mix from here forward. I can see why CHS had a thing for his gravy now.

Did your wife use Milk with the Rue or water.
CHS used Milk for the Original Crackin Gravy.
I'm Glad you tried the Seasoned Flour for the Gravy.
If your arteries can take the Cracklin from the Oil its Flavor.

Can't thank you enough for this!!!

You can add some tarragon Vinegar, or Vinegar into the Gravy it does Give a added flavor which stands out.
The vinegar was often used in many Gravies, some were called the Red Eye Gravies.
when CHS cooked he was so quick he was always moving and many times he would pour something into a cup and then it disappeared and you never knew what item he added it into. I can say that was one of his secrets.
He was seen pouring Vinegar into Gravy in the Old Days BUT he used MILK as the start of the Gravy also NOT water.

some were called the Red Eye Gravies. (sigh)
Red Eye gravy is made with brewed coffee, that is where it got it's name.

Yes you are very true the Red Eye Gravy was made with coffee.
In many regions and especially from the Chuckwagon Era Coffee was used. There were some regions which added a Vinegar to the Gravy in the final stage of the Gravy cooking for the Acid kick in the Gravy, especially if they were using Day old Coffee
