Pimento is Allspice. Technically, Allspice is the seed of the Pimenta dioica plant. In the western world it is called Allspice (because the explorers who 'discovered it said it combined the flavors of clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a bit of pepper), but in the part of the world where it originated it is called Pimento.
How can you tell that the guy/gal or group that offers the product 99X-X (playing off of Marion Kay's 99-X) definitively knows the real formula? They are highly likely to be merely guessing just like everyone else. There are clearly many spice paths to the same flavor profile. Have you tasted 99X-X? Or are you smitten by their choice of the name?

It was explained by the Reid's that after CHS Death they were not allowed to sell spices to any of the Franchise Stores and after CHS death they could not sell to any other remaining stores that were controlled by CHS.
Bill S also made a statement that to end the Lawsuit Marion Kay could not use the spice mix which resembled CHS original and they agreed to the same pre determined case president. It is also he sane for Grace When Pat lost the court case.
Contact Marion Kay head office and they will tell you they lost ALL rights to sell to KFC and agreed to change the spice as a settlement. If they say anything other then that statement I'm sure KFC would have them in court in seconds.
I guess if you don't think its possible ask any lawyer what out of court settlements are and why they are done in certain circumstances. Marion Kay would NEVER have won at a trial and they were advised that. The problem KFC corporation had was CHS while alive could use Marion Kay if the Corporation was not using the Original spice formula.
precedent was in KFC corner. The interesting part of the Lawsuit was it was over a 12 year time period that things transpired and KFC Did not make the last move until after CHS was deceased.
I'm almost certain if you asked Karl from Grace's he would say they had to change the Spice also, and was limited to amount of spices, and I'm certain ifhe says anything else KFC would pluck his feathers.

So maybe the meaning of the name would be 99X Minus Settlement/Reduction... Would be amusing. Pimento is not the native word in the producing countries. It was simply called pimienta (pepper) by the Spanish colonialists because of its resemblance to Pepper. The anglicised version Pimento then became the official name and is still being used in many western countries (e.g. UK, Germany, Netherlands). Allspice is more a colloquial term. If I had two ditch spices such as clove and nutmeg for reduction or settlement purposes, I would surely use Allspice as a replacement. Same for Thyme and Marjoram. So yes, I agree, you can get to similar results with different spices, if you get the major 5 correct.
Dear Silver, no one claimed 99X-X has THE formula. I only made one minor reference to it when I "disclosed" Cardamom. I haven't had the blend yet. But since they are using at least 8/11 spices I use myself and consider correct, I have no doubt the product to be neat at least. If they get the ratios correct. You should always be critical, that's absolutely fine. But when being critical, please don't make faulty accusations or assumptions. Thank you.

What I think is more important is ask the QUESTIONS BUT also BY prepared to ask the Questions to Marion Kay and Grace Spice.
Letters should be sent to the 2 respective companies and asked a Question or Question's
We know you lost respective court cases against KFC it Publicly Notes around the world.
Were you restricted by out of court settlement to the amount of spices use like the 1966 Famous Recipe Court Case or similar such questions. On other forums there claims to be Lawyers or people who Do such similar work maybe the proclaimed Lawyers or others should write a letter? There is NO LAW saying that Marion Kay or Grace have to answer the Question BUT there is NO saying they cannot reply.
KFC has a Media and Legal Department they can both be asked

Quick update: "Jolly Chef" does not order from Marion Kay. I have contacted MK. They didn't even know about them and are looking into it now as Jolly Chef make reference to MK on their website. More interestingly though, MK say they not only mixed the spices for the CHS as we already know, but also for Pat Grace in the beginning and they only stopped because of shipping costs.
This could validate Glens items even more, if we assume that he was given a correct list. If we combine both lists and add the most obvious ones, we get 11 items. Now I know everyone counts differently, salt is not a spice etc, but I think it is wise to focus on below ingredients and not die trying to find item X. Below will provide the note and I suggest to aim for recipe robustness first. Once this is achieved, it will be easier to find and add magical lost OR items.
1 Black Pepper 2 White Pepper 3 Summer Savory 4 Allspice 5 Coriander Seed 6 Ginger 7 Thyme 8 Sage 9 Marjoram 10 Paprika/Cayenne 11 Garlic

@11serbs, I'm not that brave with the garlic. I can see a modded Glen & Friends recipe more along these general lines:

Just a more general point. If you ask me, I would try using less pepper for starters just to capture and control more of what the other h&s contribute. You could up the pepper at a later point. I have this feeling that too much pepper, well too much of anything, can also cover the note. If we look at successful clones like Dunstin's, the pepper is significantly lower. I also think that the Corp increased pepper (and MSG) to make up for h&s omissions and decreases. Using less or little Garlic will not ward off the note. It is only an intensifier. You will be fine
