Crisco changed from cottonseed oil to soybean oil and now leaves a nasty aftertaste on everything that is cooked in it (besides being poisonous). This is why I eat little to no fast food today. I take my own butter and salad dressing to a steak house because margarine and mayonnaise/oil salad dressings are all soybean oil. Anytime someone suggests using soybean oil products for anything, I lower my head.

Agreed. But unless you render it yourself, the producers are darned proud of it.

I save all the trim from the butcher shop I manage. Grind it, vacuum seal it, and freeze it. When I need frying tallow. I just toss the bag in a hot water bath with my thermal circulator set to 155F and let it go overnight. Then I can just cut the corner of the vacuum bag and pour clear liquid gold right off the top.

You're lucky. I'd kill to have access to butcher trimmings.
