I have been asked this question often and here is the answer. Is Red Pepper the same as Paprika ANSWER: NO Look at the Photo If Red Pepper was Paprika there would be ZERO reason the Package Paprika in or Both Red Pepper and Paprika ? if you View Old 1940 recipes and the recipes from C.H.S. which we have C.H.S. used BOTH Red Pepper and Paprika ? TWO DIFFERENT ITEMS

Here is another way to look at it. All paprika comes from red pepper, but not all red pepper is paprika. The bell pepper types become paprika, but any pepper can be paprika if dried correctly. Thinner walled hot peppers like cayenne and tobasco are not good candidates to make paprika. Canned/bottled peppers are labeled as red pepper, or paprika for marketing reasons. Looking for paprika in a recipe? Then look for the can labeled as paprika.
