You could cook Batch's of chicken for other and have then review your chicken
I'm certain if you said KFC cook out night and asked people over you would need to expand your back yard for seating of the even NOT JOKING
People love great food ask people to chip in and they will

I'm only capable of cooking 3 to 4 pieces at a time. I've tried to get family (my adult children) involved, but they have zero interest, and think I'm literally quite nuts for even trying to clone KFC.

Right now I'm limiting myself to a diet that is restricted to 20 grams or less of 'gross' Carbohydrates per day, and which delivers ~70% of my daily calories requirement in the form of fat. Only fat can provide energy to the cells and brain without raising blood glucose levels. Protein (gram for gram) raises blood glucose levels roughly 50% as much as for carbohydrates.
Between Carbohydrates, Protein, and Fat, there is zero metabolic need or requirement for Carbohydrates. The other two are both highly metabolically essential.
The KFC crust is pure carbohydrates.

I said Review what Glen and jewel have said regarding Ken's Recipe. Yes It's Funny they say that Clove is Over powering in the Ken's recipe and NOT over powering in the Dustin recipe. I don't think Clove was what immediately threw Ken's recipe way off for Glen. I think it was Licorice from Star-Anise. I think it was a case of being just as for my wife and myself when a Star-Anise overload occurs, wherein he was immediately put off by it (as I was), and she was left confused due to not being offended by it, and perhaps even preferring it (mirroring my wife in this regard).
Who knows, but perhaps Glen made Ken's recipe incorrectly to begin with and added too much Star-Anise. No one knows his methodology, or care as to scaling recipes correctly, weighing correctly, and/or mixing correctly and adequately. I've often wondered if he botched a number of recipes due to issues such as these without ever even knowing it.
