But was it on the shelves of Kentucky households back in the 40's-50's era? Thanks maceme for pointing out that Bell's used a variety of Sage in their Poultry Seasoning. This is very interesting. I think the shelf remark has ultimately lead to 'chronological snobbery'. This bias leads people to believe that the current era is inherently better or more advanced than any previous era. Below image actually proves the opposite. Things were not as simplistic as we think. The information Bell's have shared shows the level of sophistication on both sides.

Bell's Seasoning is still available today: Likely it isn't as good as it once was. I'm surprised that the two main ingredients are Rosemary and Oregano. Both of these can really ruin the taste of KFC clones if used in excess. I would place them at the end of the pecking order instead of the beginning.
Where I live every Pizza Parlor thinks it knows how to make Deep Fried Chicken, and they all make sickening tasting Oregano forward Chicken. It's bad enough that it tastes like Oregano, but to top it off it's always overcooked and dry.
Rosemary is overloaded with Pinene oil, and tastes like pine as a consequence.

Silver makes a Great point that some of the Herbs can OVERPOWER ANY recipe.
the principle is knowing how strong the single ingredient is before adding it into ANY FOOD DISH or used as a Garnish.
