Studies have shown that MSG induces an Insulin release response. This is definitive proof that MSG is a form of Sugar.

I'm only speculating here, but it seems rather likely that prior to the introduction of MSG there was Dextrose in the fully seasoned flour bag. And it may have continued on to some terminus even after MSG was added to the bag. The latter is verified via a seasoned flour bag photo.

Dextrose & M.S.G. would have always had to been listed on the Ingredient List.
My recollection regarding Dextrose was it only appeared on the One-Step Bags Seasoned Flour FIRST. 1970's Era
M.S.G. was listed on Spice and Herb Bags before Dextrose appeared

Originally Corn would have contributed to the Sweet in Flour.
Milling of the Flour changed Drastically in the 60's and 70's
Some also suspected Sugar also ?
Both had the potential sweet flavor
