Star anise simply doesn't work for me anymore. The first time i ever used it, it was more sensitive than cinnamon. I would use the smallest pinch and it would add a lovely anise aroma/flavour. It was so powerful in aroma and anise flavour that the smell would stick to the plastic tub i shake my flour mix in, and you could still smell it days later. Is spice quality really this inconsistent? I added about 5x the normal amount i'd use and it did nothing.

Just going to have to buy some whole star anise, grind it up, and hopefully will actually have flavour. I am also not happy with ginger quality (tried 2 brands). Nothing compares to Jamaican ginger. Maybe with extracts you don't need the best because flavour is more potent, but with real ingredients they need to be as fresh/flavourful as possible.

My daughter tasted my licorice root powder in my mix, right off the bat.
