My fresh grinded allspice berries that were smelling incredibly delicious quickly degraded into this bland spice after only 7 months that offers nothing to a recipe. And you have 2 year old allspice?? kfc themselves use fresh spices by default because they are always using them up, so stock never gets a chance to age.

Even if the recipe had cinnamon, nutmeg, clove etc i would still use allspice. The allspice could help bring all those flavours together and highlight them. And personally i think allspice has it's own flavour instead of a combination of spices.

If you can't find it Find a Whole Berry Jamaican Pimento.

My (quasi) local Amish Bulk Foods store sells Whole Allspice Berries. I have no idea of it's quality. But we shop there often. Should I give it a try or look elsewhere?

I Look to the easiest location first and cost first always with ALL items spices and herbs included as a general.
I would try there whole Allspice Berries first for a test compared to the whole Berry they have and the comparison to your current Pantry shelf item and see if there is a Difference.
Then If there is a Difference that makes one think what have I been missing then Test a Jamaican Pimento
If you can't Find the Cool Running Pimento or access to other Jamaican Pimento whole Berry I will send you a it.
Personally my personal experience is showing more and more that the whole items are more powerful overall By a huge margin
