It's about forming a timeline. Before after or during the same period as 26oz. I personally have never seen the photo of the bags from oversees. So I would say rare, meaning not a ton of photos seem to surface. Doesn't mean never existed! I like Silver idea that maybe ingredient substitution or changes facilitated the size difference.

It has existed for a LONG time and photos were sent to Dustin to post BUT Ken / Dustin refused to upload the photo's ?

The 26oz and 40oz bags overlapped time. There is more then 26oz bags being used in 2022 so size of the bags will continue to be more then one in relevance to size of stores and region.
as for the size of Bag changing as per new spices or herbs that's debunked. it has more to do with items for crunch being corn flour and and extract weights more then new spices PLUS some areas wanted the MORE FLAVOR chicken like Trinidad Canada ETC.

My final stab at a 40 Oz. bag compliant recipe. This one drops the Celery Seed and zings a number of other H&S. An objective for this recipe is to closely match the scaled to 200 grams Eugenol ppm of the Dustin's recipe featured on 'Glen And Friends Cooking'. Dustin's recipe: 0.30g. Clove x 180,000 ppm + 0.30g. Allspice x 36,000 ppm = 64,800 ppm Eugenol This recipe: 0.25g. Clove x 180,000 ppm + 2.5g. Sweet Basil x 8,575 ppm = 66,438 ppm Eugenol 66438/64800 x 100 - 100 = 2.53 This recipe nominally has 2.53% more Eugenol than does Dustin's. Well within the margin of Eugenol content variability for the ingredients.

I'm still up in the air over adding 1.50 grams of Marjoram or adding 1.50 grams of Mediterranean Oregano as the final ingredient for the recipe seen in the post above this one, and I need forum help whereby to decide.

Another hope for this recipe is that when added at 2.50 grams the very faint licorice background of the Sweet Basil will be the nominal licorice equivalent of around 0.10 grams of boldly licorice forward Star-Anise.
