I will agree that the Majority have shown the MSG in the First Location

A lot depends upon whether KFC is permitted to collectively gang up like items, whereby H&S (spices, as a collectively summed unit) would appear before MSG. And perhaps Pepper might also.

My radical thought for the day is:
Granting that we know today's product falls well short of the product of an earlier time, there is no one alive today who can definitively recall the exact flavor of the KFC chicken that they ate in the late 50's to early 60's, before CHS sold his franchise business. Including here, myself.

If the original "locked down by CHS" 1940 recipe was somehow to be revealed today, many among us may decide upon eating it that they don't particularly like it (commensurate with declaring it the best KFC chicken they ever ate). Even if MSG was added.

We might even discover that the (only original) 1940 CHS recipe (from well before it was called Kentucky Fried Chicken, let alone KFC) does not deliver the elusive 'note'.
The note itself may require the likes extracts, hydrolyzed yeast, autolized yeast, I+G, special chemical injectants or marinates, and a number of other synthesized and/or highly processed ingredients which are out of the reach of the general public.

My radical thought for the day is:
Those who keep their best recipe secret are being disingenuous and deceitful in two ways.
1) They seek forums such as this to get them close, and to avoid many months to many years of real and honest effort.
2) Then they bolt and leave those who have saved them many months to many years of real and honest effort hanging as if kicked to the wind.

3) Well more egregious, disingenuous, and deceitful than merely bolting is hanging around and taunting.

And some contribute in both places. And most not at all.
I for one, do not have a “best recipe.” All of mine, despite being wonderfully flavorful, have fallen short of replicating KFC compared to works of others. They tend to be out of balance and some element sticks out and is identifiable.
