Cardamom will give you that type of Flavor. its not as odd as Lavender which does the same flavor. Cardamom has been a great spice Cardamom was use in the 1930's by many Bakery Could cardamom be something that's in the Tones Chili Powder? The Tones website only lists the ingredients as "Chili Pepper and other Spices, Salt and Garlic Powder".

Cardamom was used in many blends of spices and some Sausage yes.
Chili and BBQ spices mixes often had cardamom yes
Cardamom, Caraway, Celery Seed, were often unlisted items in the mixes.
I have tried to tell people for many years if you keep using the same spice time and time again after the second time trying if there is NO high aroma your need high aroma spices. to get the NOTE.
its easy to get a hit or miss OVER amount a new item into your mix or a higher then normal amount to see the aroma and note. if it jumps out at you then your on the right path.
I know people get tired of Chicken chicken chicken
Make Gravy and Biscuit's used the seasoned flout for the Biscuits you will get the flavor of the spices in the biscuit and in the gravy.
Make your Ground hamburger with the 11 Herbs and Spices and fry it. your going to get flavor or no flavor in it either DO NOT just keep trying it on CHICKEN
CHS said his spice works on ALL MEATS

I just scanned a few homemade chili powder recipes online, and Cumin came up in all of them, but Cardamom didn't appear in any of them.
Most of the homemade Chili Powder recipes listed:
Chili Peppers, Oregano, Cumin, Onion Powder, Salt, and Garlic Powder.

What spices and/or Herbs would you place in the "high aroma" category?

Where I am Cardamom is usually almost 2X the price of other ingredients like Coriander for some reason. Made me back away as if it truly is more costly. Then surely unless it was the note or a big part. KFC would have subbed it out moons ago

KFC Corporation has made the Aroma a extract, they add it to fire logs, finger nail polish and chicken dinner.
The New age has very little real spices and ONLY the Legal bare minimal amount. ANY ONE who thinks they are using more then 40% real spices in there spice bags compared to extract infused carried base flour, and starch is off there broke wing.
its a Extract Base Spice filled bag.

I won't do it for my next cook as I only want to make one change and then increase the spice to flour ratio. But for me I think Celery Seed is one I need to explore.

OK, my family has come to a general consensus on our actual attempt #7, which is essentially my recipe #4 plus Tarragon.
1) First, everyone agreed that my recipe is better "as is" than KFC. And since it is already better the consensus is that there is little benefit to be had from changing it.
That said the remaining consensus in a nutshell (when pressed as to what is needed to make it more like KFC) is as follows:
2) To match KFC it would need more Salt. Some said a lot more. 3) To match KFC it would need more Sage. 4) To match KFC it would need more Tarragon. 5) My recipe has a bit of sweetness that KFC lacks, but a polled consensus is that the sweetness is of positive benefit and should not be reduced. 6) The Tarragon appears to have solved the earlier "floral sweetness" problem (which is different from the above purely sweetness/sweetness issue). 5) Everything else is fine. Pepper level is close to identical.
