Public Statements from the Original days were
I started Making Fried Chicken Originally with ONLY Flour, Salt, and Pepper, THEN I, started adding Herbs the Family liked and kept adding items one or Two and in combinations which Complimented the Chicken, until I added 11 SPICES and HERBS to the Original Flour, Salt, and Pepper. After I developed the Seasoning in 1939 I started using the Pressure Cookers which I modified, so the chicken could be cooked in 8 Minutes not the 20 Minutes in a skillet.

Don't want to be coy, but this is obvious. I'v said it before, that CHS started, probably, with mixes and liked or disliked certain ingredients within, then mixed and matched until he duplicated the certain flavors he preferred. CHS did not invent spice and herb mixes. They have been around for ages. He isolated, then identified certain flavor combinations he liked. I believe that was the hint he was giving about Good Seasons Italian Seasoning.
What we have done is to, primarily, take the same ingredients discussed on the old TCK and rework the same elements, over and over, with occasional additions or subtractions from the "givens". The note comes from combinations, which I interpret as "multiples".
My hope is that, somehow, Ledington gave a base recipe that can keep us grounded. Remember, the Ledington recipe was attached to a will, from a death that occurred long after CHS died. Was it an old ladie's attempt to preserve history? If so, then it very well could have been in her code, using grams. In fact it could have been "her" recipe, with a few things left out. She would have been old, and maybe a bit fruity. All I know is that when I smell the most recent mix of mine, the first smell is of a maple-like flavor. When I taste it I get a lot of heat.
